Preston County Prosecuting Attorney, Mel Snyder, will present a Lunch and Learn seminar on the basics of copyrights and to dispel myths about copyright law. Snyder says, “The copyright process is easy to pursue and does not require a lawyer.” Snyder will explain the process of contacting the United States Copyright Office so that you can apply for copyright ownership and protection, what things such as songs, books, paintings, works of art, theatrical performances, and the like, are protected by copyright, and also the legal requirements to protect and enforce your copyright.”

Snyder has practiced law for 29 years. He originally graduated from WVU with a BS in Chemical Engineering and worked seven years for Exxon before going to law school at the University of Houston. He then worked as a lawyer specializing in Intellectual Property law which relates to Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights, for top tier law firms in Houston and Pittsburgh before moving back to Kingwood, West Virginia. He has written patents and litigated intellectual property law cases and has represented clients such as Micron, Monsanto, Shell, Hewlett-Packard, and ZZ Top.
